Introduction

Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Achieving SDG 3 is fundamental to building prosperous societies, as health is both a prerequisite and an outcome of sustainable development.

Examples

Sports play an important role in advancing ODD 3 by promoting physical activity, mental health and social well-being. Here are just a few of the ways in which sports contribute:

- Sport and physical activity reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and certain cancers.

- Regular physical activity helps maintain a healthy weight, lower blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health.

- Sport has been associated with improved mental health, including reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Impact and potential

Sports help improve health by encouraging physical activity and mental well-being. They are a low-cost, powerful tool to reach people and promote healthy lifestyles, especially in underserved communities.

SDG Noémie

by Durand Noémie -

Introduction :

I’ve chosen SDG 3 aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all. It focuses on reducing diseases, improving mental health, and encouraging healthy lifestyles. Sports are a powerful tool to support this goal.

Examples of Contribution :

Sports help reduce health risks like obesity and heart disease by encouraging physical activity. Programs like Right to Play use sports to teach children about hygiene and health in refugee camps. In Japan, senior sports clubs improve mental and physical health among the elderly. Team sports also help reduce stress and promote social connection.

Impact and Potential :

Sports promote both physical and mental well-being. They can reach people of all ages and backgrounds. By investing in inclusive and accessible sports programs, we can support long-term health.

SDG 5: Gender Equality
Sustainable Development Goal 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. It focuses on eliminating discrimination, violence, and ensuring equal participation in all areas of life, including leadership and decision-making.

How Sports Contribute to SDG 5:

- Increased Female Participation
Community sports programs encourage girls to take part in physical activities, boosting their confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.

- Women in Sports Leadership
Efforts to include more women as coaches, referees, and administrators help create more inclusive sports environments and challenge traditional gender roles.

- Gender Parity in Global Events
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games were the first to achieve equal numbers of male and female athletes for the first time, marking a major step toward gender parity in sports.

Impact and Potential of Sports
Sports empower women and girls by giving them visibility and voice. They help break down gender stereotypes and offer real opportunities for leadership and growth. When supported by inclusive policies, sports can be a powerful tool to drive gender equality on and off the field.

SGD Jade

I have chosen Good Health and Well-Being because the aim is to ensure healthy living and promote well-being for all. Sport makes a significant contribution by preventing illness, improving mental health and promotiing social inclusion.

The contribution of sport: Regular physical activity reduces the risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes, while helping to manage stress and anxiety. For example, the “Hoops for Health” program uses basketball to raise young people's awareness of healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and the importance of staying active.

Impact and potential: Sport creates healthier communities, reduces healthcare costs and improves overall well-being. Investing in sports programs can increase life expectancy, improve mental resilience and strengthen social ties, making sport a powerful tool for achieving SDG.

Zero hunger

by Coulet Sarah -

I choose the SDG “Zero Hunger” because for me it’s unimaginable not to have foods for living. In addition, this SDG is in accordance with the goal “Good health” because without food we can’t survive and being in good health without food and by being stressed all days in asking oneself if one will have enough food each day for oneself and for my family.

Zumba, soccer, climbing or also  boxing are sports which are implicated on this SDG. They contribute in this action with events every year to recover money and to sensibilise people about this subject. This event groups a lot of company and their workers.

In other research I find athletes who are involved in this battle against hunger. For this, with their profiles they can sponsor company…

Sport can have a good impact on this SDG. If clubs want to get involved in this subject they can give money for food, send food, advertise.

Task duration : 25 min

I have chosen to work on carbon footprint that combat climate change because sport is a vulnerable sector. Indeed, an increase in the average temperature of 3% would bring physical risks for athletes and eventually eliminate some disciplines. The more teams come from far away, the more the spectactors have a high carbon footprint. That is why sport must implement a decarbonization strategy.

In 2050, we will be 9.5 billion people on earth. (more energy spent, more waste...)
I am very sensitive to the domino's effect phenomenon : such as sea level rise and the death of certain animal species.
73% of wild animals have disappeared in just 50 years.
