Civilisation des états-unis : From Liberal to Illiberal America (1929 - 2025)
Licence 3

It is considered that the United States experienced the ascendancy and dominance of modern American liberalism between the New Deal and the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980. This era was marked by the expansion of the Federal government's role in the economy, individual rights, and, to a certain extent, the lessening of economic and social inequalities. Since then, the country has been dominated by the slow rise of "illiberalism" within the government, and in society at large, culminating in Donald Trump's electoral victories in 2016 and 2024. This class seeks to study how such a transformation took place in the U.S. during the course of the twentieth century, largely considered as the "American" century.
