Writing task submission: How to choose the right sports equipment

par Soulie Alice,

1. Consider Your Body Type and Fit

Explanation:
Sports equipment must fit your body properly to avoid injury and perform well. If the gear is too big or small, it can be uncomfortable and unsafe.

Example (Tennis):
As a tennis player, I always make sure my shoes fit my feet perfectly. If they are too tight or too loose, it could cause blisters or even lead to an ankle injury.

2. Consider Durability and Maintenance

Explanation:
Good sports equipment should last a long time, even if it costs more. It's also important to know how to take care of it.

Example (Tennis):
I choose a tennis racket made of carbon fiber because it's strong and doesn’t break easily. I also choose the good strings, more expensive but which do not break easily and with good performance.

3. Try Before You Buy

Explanation:
Trying equipment before buying helps you feel how it works and if it’s comfortable. This makes sure you choose what’s best for you.

Example (Tennis):
Before buying a new racket, I test it during practice. I check if the grip feels good and if I like how the racket hits the ball.

Identify your sport and level

We need to know which level we play and what’s we need to perform at this level. If you train every day or once per week it’s different.

I choose this one because it’s important to adapt my pair of shoes with my level. I’ve training twice everyday, so I need good pair of shoes for performance and prevent injuries.

Consider durability and maintenance

Durability and maintenance are important when we select an equipment because sometimes it’s expensive. For a quality product, it is necessary to check the longevity.

Sport equipment can be expensive so we need to choose, in basketball, shoes that resist the training load and the many changes of direction.

Try before you buy

For an equipment adapted to yourself, you must try the product before. It’s necessary to go to the shop and take your time to try.

When I buy shoes, I always try before. That’s how I’m sure of my choice. It’s not aesthetic.

For cycling; To my mind the most important article is about your level and your type of riding because if your are a sprinter rider you need a "aero bike" however if you are a climber you need a light bike.

Secondly you have to do choose about your budget because bike can be to expensive if you don't pay attention to that.

Hello everyone,

Thanks to all of you for sharing your game and player sports equipment and the manufacturers they come from. Many have their sports equipment from sponsorship with worldwide sports equipment brands such as Nike, Puma and Adidas, but it seems that your sports equipment also comes from sports suppliers specifically dedicated to your sports.

Take time to complete your work with the replay lesson.

Have a good week.

Miss. Hélène

For a dancer, the most important article is the pointes shoes and here are the three factors I use to choose the best pair :

Comfort and Fit : Comfort is essential in dance because it allows you to move freely and perform at your best without distractions or discomfort. A proper fit ensures that your body isn’t restricted, and it helps prevent injuries.

Durability and Longevity : The durability of pointe shoes is crucial because they need to withstand the intense pressure and repeated use during practice and performances. Choosing shoes that last longer can save you money and reduce the frequency of replacements.

Support and Injury Prevention : Proper support is vital to reduce the risk of injury, which can be detrimental to a dance career. Choosing equipment or accessories that protect vulnerable areas like the feet, ankles, or knees can help prevent strains or sprains.

Understand the different equipment materials/ Consider durability and maintenance:

As a dancer, I've had trouble finding a compromise between a durable pair of pointe shoes that don't break too quickly, and at the same time that are suitable for the ballet or rehearsal I'm going to dance. For example, for a technical class, pas de deux in classical ballet, I'd need a fairly rigid pair of pointe shoes that would support and enhance my foot, whereas for a neoclassical ballet, I'd need much softer pointe shoes to feel the shoe on my feet and facilitate rapid execution. It’s all a question of the materials used in the shoe, and wear. The newer the shoe, the stiffer it will be (more glue in the shoe to hold the sole and the box together), and the more the shoe wears, the softer the materials become and the less they hold the foot. It also depends on the brands, which don't use the same types of materials, so durability also varies according to these criteria. Often, to make a pair of pointe shoes last, I alternate between several pairs a day and sometimes change brands and models depending on comfort and my needs. Otherwise, I'd have to change pairs every two days and that's a huge cost indeed.

Try before you buy:

It's obvious that you have to try out your equipment to make sure it fits before you wear it for training. Personally, I always try out my pointe shoes before buying them, even if I always use the same ones because the brand I mainly use (Freed) is handmade, so sometimes depending on the manufacturing conditions, the materials may change or be softer or stiffer than usual (the cardboard may swell, the glue may not be as effective... which completely changes the appearance and shape of the shoe). It's very important for me to find the same sensations and qualities that I need in my ballet shoes every time! The same goes for all the other elements I use, mainly leotards, skirts and slippers. It's essential to feel good and comfortable in what you're wearing so that it's not the equipment that affects your performance.

Consider your body type and fit:

Explanation: A good fit is essential for comfort, performance and injury prevention. Ill-fitting equipment can cause discomfort and even injury.
Example: In basketball, choosing the right shoe size and fit is crucial. I play basketball, so I need shoes that give my ankle a minimum of support to reduce the risk of sprains, especially considering my history of ankle injuries.

Research and read reviews:
Explanation: Before buying any equipment, it's important to research the different brands and models. Reading other athletes' reviews helps identify a product's strengths and weaknesses.
Example: When choosing new basketball shoes, I read the comments of professional players or people who test shoes to find out which models offer the best comfort and fit.

Try before you buy:
Explanation: Testing equipment before buying allows athletes to evaluate comfort, balance and overall fit. This helps avoid purchasing equipment that may not fit or function as intended.
Example: When choosing sneakers or basketball sportswear, I always test different brands and textures to find the best feel. This helps me feel comfortable with my equipment.

1 - Consider Your Body Type and Fit

Explanation : Selecting the right material for your body is essential to prevent injuries and improve your performance. For example, inappropriate shoes can cause pain or injury that will affect your performance.

Exemple : In basketball, choosing shoes that are adapted to your foot morphology (wide, narrow, etc.) and your style of play can avoid problems such as foot pain or sprains, especially during rapid changes of direction.

2 - Consider Durability and Maintenance

Explanation : It is essential that equipment be durable to withstand frequent use. In addition, choosing a low-maintenance equipment is wise so as not to have to invest too much time and money.

Exemple : In basketball experience, selecting a strong and easy-to-hold ball is paramount, especially during outdoor training sessions where abrasion is more accelerated.

3 - Consider Your Budget

Explanation : Setting a reasonable budget allows you to select equipment that meets your requirements without spending too much. It’s not always necessary to have the most expensive equipment, especially if you’re a beginner or play at a recreational level.

Exemple : When I was a kid and played basketball primarily for fun, a pair of high-quality shoes wasn’t necessary. A pair of decent sneakers was more than enough to enjoy the game without worrying about the cost.

Durability : For me take high quality equipment is very important because I play all the days for practice and all the week or two times by week during game. So if my equipments dont have a consider durability it will be not good for my performance.

Comfort :After I take same shoes and brand (Nike) since I started volley ball because I highlight being comfortable instead of the visual

Safety : If I buy some shoes I take those who will not hurt me

par Lemoine Lucie,

For me the three essential factors for choosing sports equipment in my field (the points in classical dance) are :

Safety : First, the equipment must be safe because my body is my work tool and I want to avoid injuries.

Try before you buy : This means trying my points before buying them to test if it's high-quality and see if they suit me for dancing every day.

Durabillity : From my point of view, an important factor is also the durability of my points, because it's often expensive (for example the pair can go up to 180 euros) so I prefer that they last in time because it requires an investment .

Writing task instructions Noah NICOLAS

par Nicolas Noah,

For me the three most important factors when choosing sport equipment are :

Safety, comfort & performance.

- Safety : The first thing that people want to feel doing an activity is security, nobody is going to enjoy a moment or to try something new (maneuver) if they feel insecure. In my case, kitesurfing is an extreme and dangerous sport so security is essential for us. We always need to trust on our gear and unfortunately sometimes accidents happens.

- Comfort : As athletes we always want to increase our skills, for it we need the materials to adapt our style of riding and our body. For example, the harness needs to be on a good size and to be the correct model to feel comfortable.

- Performance : The material need to fit with us, because as professionals we give 100% of our body, but we also need the best gear that is in or out of the market to perform even better. Personally, I'm part of the Duotone Kiteboarding Team and I know that this brand is one of the best ones.

Consider Sustainability and Eco-Friendliness, today we know the importance of saving the planet, as a kitesurfer I'm always close to the nature and I see all the pollution that goes into the sea, so for us save the planet is not just an acquaintance, it's a way of life. The brand that I'm part (Duotone) as a ''Eco-slogan'' #saveourplaygrounds to be aware about the pollution and take care about the places we travel.
